L&T Hyderabad Broke The Bias On This Woman's Day

Hyderabad Metro Rail, the urban transportation icon of Hyderabad & the second-largest metro network in India, has attracted people from across the country. L&T is consistent in providing employment opportunities to everyone, irrespective of their gender. L&T strives to provide equal job opportunities and career growth.

Breaking barriers takes commitment and strength. And that is what has enabled L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (LTMRHL) to break barriers in the mass rapid transit system that it operates and within its organizational functions.

On 8 March – International Women`s Day – LTMRHL decided to break not only the gender bias but also the hierarchical bias. In its celebration, LTMRHL shone the limelight on several women employees who usually work behind the scenes and whose contributions seemingly go unnoticed. Such women are well known on the ground, but International Women's Day became a milestone when Hyderabad Metrorail lifted the women's workforce from the back end to the top.

L&T and its constituent business units have specifically adopted "Winspire" in addition to direct action to increase women's participation in the large workforce. Winspire is not a "one-off" event and will be seen on a large scale in all industries over the next few years. According to the data, it can be seen that there is a consistent rise in the admission of females at three main entry levels- the Graduate, post-graduate, and management trainees in many group companies.

Hyderabad Metro Rail organized various activities, celebrating the day with a difference. Management in the backseat was one of the unique events when senior management from L&TMHRL, including the MD, took a back seat and the unsung women workforce rose to the occasion.

This time, all work was done by base housekeeping, maintenance, and security staff. This female staff was directly involved in the event's conception and execution, celebrations, lamp lighting, guest speaker blessings, and other engagement activities.

Mrs. Anurada, Mrs. Shashikara, Mrs. Rama, Mrs. Upendra, and Mrs. Renuka lit up the auspicious ceremonial lamps. According to her statement, it was the first time in her life. Security guard Asha led all the activities surrounding the all-day celebration. She expressed her excitement for getting her attention at this event, and she said it was one of the best opportunities in her career.

Her colleague Bhagyalakshmi was also excited to be nominated as a VIP guest. She shares her joy and is in the spotlight during this one-of-a-kind occasion. She took on her responsibility to congratulate guests with great honour. She later confessed that this opportunity raised her self-esteem and that she was confident in facing such a large gathering and doing something that she’s never done before. She absolutely loved the experience. As did ticket collector Supriya and security guard Anuradha who were chosen to congratulate other guests. They couldn't hide their excitement about being part of the team that drives the event.

Hyderabad Metro Rail devised a novel approach involving women in the workforce by engaging with the community. Hyderabad Metro Rail invited change agents from the city who are actively involved in social welfare and women empowerment. Mr. Kamal Nayak - Founder of Good Universe, and Anusha Bhardwaj - Executive Director for Voice4Girls, took part in this unique activity, which included a special metro train travel from Ameerpet to Nagole Metro Station, accompanied by metro rail women station controllers, loco pilots, and technical staff.

Anusha Bhardwaj and Kamal Nayak connected with the female metro personnel and became a part of their life during the 35-minute commute. The female metro employees talked about their experiences working for Hyderabad Metro Rail and its impact on their personal and professional lives.

Lakshmi Kaavya and Soujanya Thalluri, both technical employees, spoke about their experiences in the male-dominated field of back-end technical assistance.

Kamal Nayak, who hails from Odisha, was ecstatic to have taken his first metro ride, and he was even more ecstatic to have done so with the female metro workers who run the metro train operations.

Anusha Bhardwaj described her voyage on the metro train as "one of the most amazing experiences I've ever taken." For her, conversing with the female metro employees while travelling was a fantastic experience. She expressed her gratitude to Hyderabad Metro Rail for providing such an interesting platform.

This was when everyone felt connected and bonded with the overarching fold of L&TMRHL, pledging to keep levelling any biases and gaps while enabling the right platforms of opportunities. The fun opportunity became even more memorable when all employees promised to connect, build bonds, keep away all prejudices and promote each other's growth. LTMRHL not only fills geographic distances but also strengthens relationships and supports the path for those who pursue a passion.
