Metro Rail is one of the most awaited
projects that has captured the imagination of the people of Hyderabad over the
last decade. Metro Rail in the globalized era is not only for the purpose of
development, but it also reflects the world-class standards, amenities and a
host of other features that go into the making of this ambitious project.
Right
from the viaducts, pillars, rolling stock, signaling system, metro stations,
metro coaches, metro depots, every aspect of Hyderabad Metro Rail represents
the incorporation of global standards and practices. Metro Rail is a green & Eco-friendly means aimed at
reducing pollution and consumption of fossil fuel. The project envisages
ultra-modern coaches for faster and comfortable travel. The Metro coaches are lightweight stainless steel bodied with
four doors on each side of each the coach. Recently the first set of metro
coaches for the project rolled of Hyundai Rotem Factory at in South Korea. The
coaches were designed based on the state-of-the-art Communication-Based Train
Control (CBTC) system, for the first time ever in the country. Each Metro coach
is fully air-conditioned for maximum comfort and comes equipped with
video-screens, sockets for charging mobile phones, closed-circuit cameras,
laptops, etc. LED displays in each coach indicate the arrival of stations. Metro coaches have foolproof safety
features including on‐board fire &
smoke detection equipments. The trains make use of
regenerative electric braking that converts the momentum into electrical energy
and feeds back to power supply system while braking. Wheel
slip/slide protection, crash‐worthy
design and emergency brake application are other important aspects of the
train.
Hyderabad
Metro Rail is building elevated stations that connect major
retail and commercial spaces, offices and places of interest. The stations are user-friendly with special
provisions for the disabled and elderly. Features like automatic ticket vending
machines and automatic fare collection systems and amenities such as ATM’s and
toilets are an integrated part of the Metro station infrastructure. The trains also have systems for better
humidity control and secondary air‐suspension
for better rider comfort. Hyderabad Metro Rail has two major depts for train
stabling and maintenance, which are equipped with modern facilities for
efficient maintenance of Metro rail and its assets. The stations come with lifts, staircases,
parking facilities and public information systems.
