L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited envisions
transforming the city of Hyderabad with a world-class mass rapid transit system
creating a new definition of an effective public transport system, that is
modern and efficient. The over burdened roads of Hyderabad, with millions of
existing vehicles and addition of new vehicles every year is only contributing
to more air pollution, while commuters lose productive hours each day,
navigating the traffic jams and other hassles.
Hyderabad Metro Rail is designed in a way such that it can
cater to a peak volume of more than 50,000 commuters during the peak hours and
target carrying 22 lakh passengers every day by 2024. In this regard, new
technologies have boosted the efforts of Metro rail project.
In terms of energy efficiency, Hyderabad Metro
utilizes Regenerative Electric Braking which converts the momentum into
electrical energy and feeds back to the overall power supply system during
braking. This reduces the overall energy requirement from the power grid.
L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited has deployed an advanced signaling
& train control technology, the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC),
for advanced control of trains. Infact, Hyderabad Metro Rail has created history,
becoming the first such Metro Rail project in India where the trains are
controlled by CBTC technology. Recently using this technology, trial run
of Metro in Automated Train Operation (ATO) mode was tested successfully for
the first time ever in India, where the trains are controlled by automatic
commands from the central control centre. Hyderabad Metro also has the
distinction of being India’s first elevated city based transit system being
developed under the public-private participation (PPP) mode.
The future development scope of a city like Hyderabad is
expected to get a fillip with the roll out of this project. The coaches of
Hyderabad Metro are ultra modern with a host of security and commuter friendly

piers, stations, overhead power cables, depots and the international standards
