Hyderabad Metro Rail is
all set to transform the concept of
public transport in the city, which envisages three corridors in the first phase.
The third corridor of the Metro Project, Nagole-Shilparamam is of 28 kms length
approximately, with 23 stations. The first phase of this corridor from
Nagole-Mettuguda for a length of approximately 7-8 km would be operational this
year, in 2015 and all efforts are moving in the right direction.
The second station in
this corridor, Uppal now has a brand new Metro station in advanced stages of
completion, gearing up for its moment of reckoning as a key transport hub in
East Hyderabad. Uppal Metro station ushers the right face lift for this once
sleepy suburb of Hyderabad. The station is now being spruced up with elevators,
platform works, staircases and other amenities to make the station completely
ready for the official launch of the train services.
Already, this section
is witnessing regular test runs of the metro rail. Once completed, Uppal Metro
station with its strategic location at the crossroads of major thoroughfares
leading towards LB Nagar, Secunderabad, Koti and Warangal highway through Ghatkesar
would emerge as the hub for future growth and development.
When compared to the
Cyberabad corridor, Uppal is yet to witness the scale of development seen
towards the Hi-tech city, but with the upcoming ITIR near Pocharam, which
already boasts of several IT companies, Uppal would no doubt emerge as a pillar
of Hyderabad’s development on its eastern plank.
The station, at the
crossroads of major intersections would not only usher better connectivity for
the people of this region but it would also be a big boost to the tourism
sector, that enables visitors to reach this region directly from Madhapur
through the dedicated Metro corridor. From Uppal metro station, it is easier to
reach Warangal, Yadagirigutta and also places like Ramoji Film city, including other
upcoming attractions and development projects. It would also serve to reduce
traffic congestion and pollution, once more commuters avail the Metro. In
short, Uppal Metro Station would spur large-scale development in the region,
exploring the potential here and boost all-round development activities with
the ultra-modern metro trains and rapid connectivity.
