What Makes Hyderabad Metro Rail Unique ?

Hyderabad Metro, the much cherished dream project for the denizens of Hyderabad city is all set to become the lifeline, adding a feather in the cap for the city, known for its heritage and historical significance as much as for its envious position as one of India’s hubs for services sector, education, business, film industry and much more. A sprawling city like Hyderabad is in need of a world-class public transport system that can create the right impetus for a sustainable growth in the future.

Hyderabad metro rail is considered as a most efficient one in terms of space occupancy, energy consumption and the number of passengers transported.  The high-capacity carriers, i.e. metro coaches carry maximum committers per peak hour in peak directions and once the entire metro is operational, this number is expected to touch 60,000 passengers per peak direction for every hour.

The metro rail project is eco-friendly. It does not cause any air pollution and comparatively very negligible sound pollution, which are the hallmarks of an efficient transportation system.
Metro is also known for its low energy consumption, i.e. 20% per passenger km when compared to other road-based transport systems. This helps in projecting metro as the sustainable transport solution, which carries more commuters with less energy. Metro rail is also known for its greater traffic capacity and is expected to carry as much traffic as that of 7 lanes of bus traffic or even 24 lanes of car traffic in either way.

The metro rail also comes with a low ground space occupation, wherein only 2 meters of the median width of road is being consumed for the elevated rail. This ensures that road spaces are not taken up much, thereby creating sufficient room even for road transport, in addition to the modern metro. Hyderabad metro rail also serves to reduce the journey time by around 50% to 75%. This can be a boon for thousands of students, professionals and others that spend most of their time in buses, on roads plagued by traffic jams.

Overall, metro is envisaged to create a better transport solution, where it influences every sphere of life and also serves to earn the tag of a ‘Smart city’ to Hyderabad, boosting the growth and future development prospects of the city.
